Special Education
Coventry is firmly committed to the principle of inclusion and to ensure that all children and young people in the city have a real chance of success in their lives.
For this reason, we seek to provide a range of educational opportunities so that, wherever possible, children and young people will be educated alongside their peers in their local community.
For most children with special educational needs, this provision will be made in their local neighbourhood school. Some mainstream schools have additional resources for children with hearing or visual difficulties, or with speech and language difficulties and there are two enhanced resource nurseries for very young children with severe special educational needs, within two of our primary schools.
For those whose needs are greater, and who need very specialist provision, Coventry has eleven special schools, two designated units in mainstream schools and five separate special education units. These provide high quality support for a range of different needs.
