Higher Education Qualification
The Registered Teacher Programme (RTP) is an employment-based route into teaching for those individuals who do not have a degree, but have at least two years higher education experience.
You may be undertaking a degree but not have completed it yet, have a HND or other higher education qualification but not a degree, which will give you CAT points towards completing a degree.
In addition, you will need to have GCSE, or equivalent, in English and Maths, (and Science for Primary school teaching if you were born on or after 1st September 1979), at Grade C level or above. For secondary school teaching, you will need to be teaching in the subject of, or related to, your degree.
To undertake the Registered Teacher Programme (RTP), you need to be working as an unqualified teacher undertaking a part-time degree, (to complete your higher education qualification), as well as undertaking an individual training programmme within the school, based on your individual needs.
You will need to apply for, or persuade a school to take you on as an unqualified teacher through the RTP. A list of Coventry schools and points of contact, is available by using this link Coventry Schools.
Once you have a school, you will need to find a teacher training college or university that runs the RTP programme, to work with the school.
